Body Systems Book
Directions: Conduct research on the eight body systems, below. In your booklet, explain about the eight systems by doing the following.
  1. System: Draw the system as accurately as you can on one page. Color it neatly.
  2. Parts: Label the parts on the drawing, or list the parts on the facing page.
  3. Function: Tell about the function or purpose the system provides for the body.
  4. Put your name, a title and design on the front cover.

Skeletal System
  • Part: 206 bones, plus tendons, ligaments & cartilage
  • Purpose: Provides support, movement, protections of vital organs, blood cell production and calcium storage.

Muscular System
  • Part: More than 650 muscles
    • Smooth muscle is muscle you rarely control such as the muscle in your intestinal tract.
    • Cardiac muscle is very specific tissue found in your heart
    • Voluntary muscle is the muscle that helps your move (Skeletal)
  • Purpose: To provide movement for the body, maintain posture, circulates blood throughout the body; provides strength, balance and posture, movement and heat for the body to keep warm.

Circulatory/Cardiovascular System
  • Parts: Heart and blood vessels, including arteries, veins and capillaries
  • Purpose: Makes up the network that delivers blood to the body's tissues. With each heartbeat, blood is sent throughout our bodies, carrying oxygen and nutrients to all of our cells.

Respiratory System
  • Parts:
    • Upper Tract-Mouth, nose, nasal, cavity, pharynx, larynx
    • Lower Tract-Trachea, Bronchi, Bronchioles, Alveoli, Diaphragm, Lungs
  • Purpose: Process of breathing air in (to supply oxygen to the circulatory system and exhaling carbon dioxide out)

  • Parts: mouth, esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, anus
  • Purpose: Breaks down food and then absorbs the nutrients into the bloodstream

Nervous System
  • Part: Brain, spinal cord and neurons
  • Purpose:Regulates and coordinates all the activities of the cells in the body; the highway along with your brain sends and receives information about what is happening in the body and around it.

  • Part: Skin, kidneys, large intestines, liver, bladder, lungs
  • Purpose: To remove waste from the human body and is responsible for regulating water balance in various body fluids.
